Portage Lakes is in Summit County at the southern end of the Akron metro area. It’s part of Coventry Township, one of the nine townships in Summit County. Parts of Portage Lakes were once in Franklin Township; however, that area was absorbed by the city of New Franklin in 2005. So today, Portage Lakes is solely in Coventry Township.

The Portage Lakes body of water consists of 14 glacial kettle lakes and reservoirs. The community is also adjacent to Portage Lakes State Park. The city of Akron forms the northern border, and other nearby communities include Barberton, New Franklin, Green, Lakemore, and Uniontown.

Portage Lakes is about 9.7 miles or a 14-minute drive from downtown Akron.
