Moving to Fairlawn
Are you seeking a quiet community on the outskirts of Akron with easy access to town and comfortable neighborhoods? You’re in luck because on the northwest border, you’ll find the city of Fairlawn, OH. Covering only about 4 square miles, it is the definition of small and offers a true hometown feel.
If you’re wondering about the population for such a small area, when the city was incorporated in the 1970s, it had a small population of 6,200 people. And the area has seen limited growth since then with only about 7,400 now calling it home. More than one-third of the Fairlawn population are of retirement age, while only about 15% of the population is under the age of 18.
Have you been thinking about moving to Fairlawn? Krupp Moving has been serving the area for over 15 years, completing more than 12,000 moves during that time. Our Fairlawn movers are trained to be professional, courteous, and efficient to ensure your transition runs as smoothly and stress-free as possible.
As you are searching for safe, quiet neighborhoods in Fairlawn, be sure to take a look at communities like Montrose and Rosemont for some beautiful homes. If you have young children and you’re looking for a more family-friendly area, Fairlawn Heights is a great option which offers gorgeous 20th-century architecture and easy access to local parks as well as the Fairlawn Country Club just down the road.
Speaking of parks, the local green spaces offer some of the best things to do in Fairlawn. Fort Island / Griffiths Park in the center of town provides beautiful scenery, walking paths along a small creek, and a playground. You can also claim your own plot of the community garden at Fairlawn Park, which allows you to grow vines, tomatoes, and other produce. Summit Mall is yet another great spot in the city with a variety of popular shops and some great places to eat.
The small Copley-Fairlawn City School District serving the area has only two public elementary schools which are Fort Island Primary and Herberich. There are also two private schools for grades K-8 including Akron Montessori Elementary and St. Hilary Elementary. There are no high schools in town, so any teens will attend Copley High to the southwest.
As mainly a retirement community, you won’t find many jobs in Fairlawn. But a simple commute to Akron less than 7 miles away opens the door for many nearby employment opportunities with the Summa Health System, University Hospitals, and The University of Akron.
Fairlawn weather offers comfortable summer highs reaching an average of 82°F with lows in the mid-60s. Winters are cold and wet with low temperatures occasionally dipping into the teens and a little more than 40 inches of snow every year.
