Moving to Kent

Known as “Kentites”, people living in Kent, Ohio enjoy a college town lifestyle with plenty of fun things to do. Settled in 1805, the city has seen occasional bursts of growth including during the 1960s where the residency doubled to about 28,000 locals. Since then, the current population has only grown by about a couple thousand and stands around 29,900.

With a median age of only 23 years old, a large portion of the locals are college students who attend Kent State University on the east side of the city. Kent is often recognized as a football town that has produced a handful of famous players and coaches. NFL greats like Antonio Gates, Julian Edelman, and James Harrison all attended the local university, along with the highly respected University of Alabama head coach, Nick Saban.

Thinking about moving to Kent? Whether you’re a student planning to attend Kent State University, a professor preparing to fill an open position, or a young family moving to the area, the Krupp Moving team is ready to help with your relocation. We offer a wide range of services to help our customers with every moving need that may arise.

One of the first steps to your upcoming transition will be deciding which neighborhood to live in. Known as one of the most historic communities in town, the Davey neighborhood is located in the center of town and offers many beautiful homes. Sitting along the Cuyahoga River that floats through the middle of the city, the Riverbend community is another great suburban option.

If you’re looking for fun things to do around Kent, you may want to start at the university. The Kent State Museum offers visitors unique looks at interesting exhibits that change throughout the year. Another popular attraction around town is Kent Stage, where locals can attend concerts, plays, and much more. And for those who want something fun to do outside, a day at the Portage Hike & Bike Trail offers gorgeous views along bridges and pathways along the Cuyahoga River.

Parents in the area have a handful of public elementary schools to choose from including Brimfield, Longcoy, and Holden. There is also Stanton Middle School, as well as Theodore Roosevelt High for high school kids. Those who prefer a private school experience can send their kids to St. Patrick Elementary K-8.

The city is also home to some great employers, including Kent State University, which is one of the largest companies in the area with over 4,000 people working there. Davey Tree Expert Company, a multinational landscaping business, is also headquartered in Kent. Then there is Coleman Professional, a not-for-profit provider of behavioral health & rehabilitation programs.

Kent weather brings cold winters, but warm, comfortable summers. The area sees about 45 inches of snow per year, reaching the low 20s on its coldest days. While summers enjoy temps in the low 80s, though there is fairly decent humidity as well.
