Moving to Massillon

There is no denying that Massillon, which is also known as the “City of Champions”, is a sports town through and through. Less than 10 miles west of Canton, this small town has generated some major names in the worlds of both baseball and football. The city was incorporated back in 1858 and became a central hub for sports fans soon after.

With a Massillon population of under 33,000, the numbers haven’t changed much in this area since the 1950s when there were about 31,000 people. But among those statistics, some well-known sports figures have stood out among the crowd, including the founder, former owner, and Hall of Fame coach of the Cleveland Browns, Paul Brown. Other worthy names on the list are Tommy Henrich of the New York Yankees, as well as NFL Hall of Famer Jim Houston.

Will you be joining this great community by moving to Massillon soon? Krupp Moving has been serving the Canton area and its nearby suburbs as a top moving company for over 15 years. Whether you need help with a local, long-distance, or office move, our team is fully staffed and ready to assist you.

If you’re still deciding where to live around town you’ll find a number of great neighborhoods on the west side of Massillon, including Westerado to the southwest and West Brookfield along the western border. Another great option is the Charity Rotch community on the north side, which is named after a local woman who was a well-known merchant and missionary in the early 1800s

For anyone interested in local history, one of the best things to do is visit the Massillon Museum for a variety of art and history exhibits. If you want to join in on one of the most popular activities around town, head to Paul Brown Tiger Stadium, which seats over 16,000 people, to catch a Massillon Washington High School football game. A great place to enjoy the outdoors is the Jackson Bog State Nature Preserve and its local park.

Massillon schools are separated into three districts and each offers reliable programs for all ages. Elementary and junior high schools include Sauder Elementary, Gorrell Elementary, Watson Elementary, Edison Middle, and Tuslaw Middle. The city also has four public high schools: Jackson, Tuslaw, Perry, and Massillon Washington High.

When looking for jobs in Massillon, you’ll find a strong manufacturing community, especially in the steel industry. There are a number of large employers in the city such as E-Tank, Stark Glass Enterprises, and Rayco Manufacturing.

As with basically any city in Ohio, Massillon weather brings cold winters with plenty of snow and mild, warm summers. Expect to get about 38 inches of snow per year with winter temperatures in the 20s and summers to bump up to comfortable ranges around the mid-80s.
