Moving to Barberton

Founded in the year 1891, the city of Barberton was established as a town focused on industry. Many businesses moved to this area and focused on lumber-related manufacturing. Most notably was the city founder’s company called the Diamond Match Company, which at the time was producing over 250 million matches per day.

It quickly became known as the “Magic City” due to one reporter’s article which said the area’s rapid growth seemed to happen by magic. By the 1920s, the city had grown to over 20,000 residents. Though since then, growth has been fairly even as the current population is around 26,000.

If you are thinking about moving to Barberton any time soon, we would love to help with your relocation. For over 15 years, the Krupp Moving team has been serving Ohio cities focused around the Akron metropolitan area. You can count on our team to help with the transition while maintaining the highest levels of service, care, and professionalism.

When you’re looking for a great place to live, the neighborhood of Newton Park is located on the northeast side of town along the Akron border. Hopocan is another great community, which you can find on the opposite side of town to the southwest. While the downtown area surrounds a small body of water known as Lake Anna and features a great neighborhood with the same name.

You’ll find a variety of fun things to do in Barberton, including the numerous activities at Portage Lakes State Park, a 2,000-acre lot where visitors can go boating, fishing, and swimming. Another popular park in the area is Edgewood Park, which features a splash pad, grassy areas, and a playground. Locals also have easy access to Akron activities like the Akron Zoo and Akron Civic Theatre, both of which are less than 10 miles away.

Parents who move to the area will have three main schools in the area for their kids, all named after the city. Barberton Elementary, Middle School, and High School. Though, depending on where you live, some students will attend schools in neighboring cities like Norton and Akron. Barberton also has one private K-8 school known as St. Augustine Elementary.

The industrial side of this city has never gone away with some locals working in town at large companies like Sherlock Services and BWX Technologies. But most residents in Barberton also enjoy an easy commute to Akron for their jobs. FirstEnergy (the local electric utility company), Summa Health hospitals, and the University of Akron are the largest employers nearby.

Barberton weather is fairly similar to just about anywhere else in Ohio. You’ll experience cold, windy, and cloudy winter with about 32 inches of snow per year. Summers can feel a bit warm with the humidity, but temps rarely go over low 80s, making it comfortable enough to spend your days outside.
